The timeless story of a cockney flower girl who takes London society by storm. When the smug, crotchety, well-to-do bachelor, Professor Henry Higgins, meets dirty guttersnipe, Eliza Doolittle, he arrogantly wagers that he can pass her off as a duchess within six months. Eliza proves to be a feisty and rebellious student and things get off to a rough start, but six months later, dressed to the nines and speaking like the queen, Eliza has the men of London wrapped around her finger – with the exception of the professor.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

ELIZA DOOLITTLE  Young cockney flower seller whom Higgins bets he can pass off in London society as a duchess in 6 months. Uneducated, but wise in the ways of the world. Kind but feisty. Must change  from a cockney guttersnipe to an elegant aristocrat. Needs a cockney accent as well as RP British.  Must sing very well (soprano).

HENRY HIGGINS British. A well-known professor of linguistics and confirmed bachelor. Plain-speaking to the point of rudeness. Set in his ways and arrogant. Sings a little. Must have impeccable received pronunciation (Standard British, upper class).

ALFRED P. DOOLITTLE Eliza’s father.  A brash Cockney dustman. Irresponsible, self-absorbed, a heavy drinker, yet an impressive philosopher. Should sing pretty well and dance a little. Needs very strong comic skills.

MRS. HIGGINS Higgins’ aristocratic mother. Elegant, strong, self-assured yet warm, with an excellent sense of humor. Does not hesitate to tell Higgins what she thinks of him.

COLONEL HUGH PICKERING Close friend of Henry Higgins. A gentleman in every way. Perfect manners and true courtesy inspired by a kind and generous heart. A military man. Sings a little.

FREDDY EYNSFORD-HILL Handsome young aristocrat who falls in love with Eliza. Should sing “On The Street Where You Live” extremely well.

MRS. PEARCE Higgins’ housekeeper. Very proper but warm-hearted and motherly deep down.

MRS. EYNSFORD-HILL Freddie’s mother.

ZOLTAN KARPATHY A Hungarian phonetician; Higgins’ former student and rival.

HARRY & JAMIE  Cockney Dustmen. Drinking chums of Eliza’s father.

ENSEMBLE The ensemble of this show is very busy and gets to play all kinds of characters, from Cockney peddlers to policemen, to servants to aristocratic racing enthusiasts and upper crust society. All should dance and sing very well. The servants sing, the street people sing and dance, the peers of the realm sing and dance.
