Welcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous, crowd-pleasing musical farce, Something Rotten. 16th century brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of the Renaissance rock star, William Shakespeare, A.K.A., “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer fortells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and All That Jazz. Something Rotten features large song and dance numbers and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each given his or her own special moment in the show to shine. Rated PG-13.

NICK (Male, Bari-Tenor, 25-45) A writer. Nigel’s older brother. Despises Shakespeare for his success.

NIGEL (Male, Tenor, 20- 35) A writer. Nick’s younger brother. Sweet and a little awkward. He is in

love with Portia. A big Shakespeare fan.

LORD CLAPHAM (Male, Bari-Tenor, 40+) Patron of the theatre. He’s flamboyant and extremely posh. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings well.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (Male, Tenor, 20-45) Over the top, cocky, a true rock star of his time. He is the renaissance James Brown.

THOMAS NOSTRADAMUS (Male, Bari-Tenor, 40+) A soothsayer. He predicts that the next big thing in theatre will be musicals. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings and dances very well.

BROTHER JERIMIAH (Male, Bari-Tenor, 40+) A Puritan. The father of Portia. He despises all things theatre related. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings very well.

SHYLOCK (Male, Baritone, 40+) An older Jewish man. Nick and Nigel are in debt to him. He becomes an investor in their musical.

BEA (Female, Mezzo-Belt, 20-45) Nick’s wife. She loves Nick despite his past lack of success. She dresses up like a man to prove to her husband she can be a bread winner and support he and Nigel.

PORTIA (Female, Soprano, 20-35) A beautiful Puritan woman that Nigel meets on the street. She has golden hair and loves poetry. A big Shakespeare fan.
