In this delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy, four Southern women are drawn together by Fate—and an impromptu happy hour in the juice bar of a yoga studio —and decide it high time to reclaim the joie de vivre they’ve lost through the years. Randa is struggling to cope with a surprise career derailment. Dot is reeling from the recent loss of her husband and demolished dream of their idyllic retirement. Marlafaye has blasted into Savannah in the wake of losing her tom-cattin’ husband to a twenty-three-year-old dental hygienist. Jinx, a self-styled life-coach is new to town and at loose ends, so she strong-arms her new friends into hiring her. Over the next six months, these menopausal Southern belles embark on hilarious misadventures, makeovers, romances, and tippling parties, at last finding the confidence to jumpstart their lives. Most importantly, they realize it’s never too late to make new old friends. A wonderful ensemble piece, requiring actors with excellent comic ability but also with good dramatic chops. Rated PG-13.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
RANDA COVINGTON (Female, 49-ish) A high-strung, perfectionistic, workaholic architect. Attractive and tastefully dressed. Accustomed to success and money. Exudes confidence.
DOT HAIGLER (Female, 69-ish) Warm and kind. Tries to look on the bright side — even though she now faces the unsettling prospect of starting a new life from scratch all alone. Former French teacher.
MARLAFAYE MOSLEY (Female, 50-60-ish) Earthy and boisterous — a good ol’ Texas gal. Former nurse, now a rep for a liquor distributor. Her desire to establish a new life is equaled only by her determination to wreak a righteous revenge on her ex.
JINX JENKINS (Female, 50-ish) Energetic, self-confident, and gregarious. Dresses flashily and wears plenty of make-up; she’s the manager of a make-up store. Insistent that she’ll make a great life-coach, she can’t see that she’s the one most in need of advice.
GRANDMA Non-speaking cameo in Act 1 Scene 4.
