It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” With the help of Seaweed J. Stubbs, an African-American student she meets in detention, Tracy learns some amazing moves and lands a spot on The Corny Collins Show. Transformed from social outcast to sudden star, Tracy uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the show. Although she is bullied by Velma Van Tussle and her beautiful, popular and extremely nasty daughter, Tracy perseveres and wins the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, integrates a TV network, and coaxes her shy mother out of the house . . . all without denting her ‘do’! Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Hairspray is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. Rated PG-13.
